Annesley’s predecessor, John Wesley House was built at Rowethorpe in 1974 and operated as a ‘wing’ of the Rowethorpe Nursing Centre (the other wing being Charles Jenkins). This ‘state of the art’ facility provided high level nursing home care dementia specific care and through its life was viewed by international visitors. However, Charles Jenkins eventually closed due to cost-prohibitive certification requirements and maintenance. Not long after, it was decided that John Wesley House would also need to be decommissioned for the same reasons. As part of the Rowethorpe Master Plan refined over many years, a 104-bed intermixed facility was built on the other side of the Rowethorpe campus on the site where Claudia Hicks Lodge and the Cottage Units had stood.
Named for John Wesley’s Mother, Susanna Annesley, the new facility was opened in 2007 and comprises three ‘wings’ which all have spacious resident communal lounges and dining areas.
