Site Description
Bethshan is one of Uniting Church Homes’ country facilities, located in Katanning -the ‘heart of the Great Southern’. It started life as ‘The Pines’, a home in Piesse Street purchased by the Presbyterian Church and renamed as Bethshan –meaning home of rest and peace. The original house was opened in 1955 for elderly residents. Extensions and renovations followed during 1961, 1965 and 1996 to create additional rooms and amenities including an activities centre and improve the kitchen and dining area. further renovations have been taking place during 2004-2006 to both resident rooms and the shared areas of the facility. Bethshan provides 26 low care places (including one respite). All rooms are individual with fourteen of these having their own ensuite. There are four ‘blocks’ with all residents coming to a central dining area for meals. Shared lounges, activity and quiet areas are also available to residents and visitors in each block.
Further renovations and upgrades to the final rooms and building completed in March 2008.
Garden areas upgraded 2008 and new Tranquility Garden in the centre of the facility will be completed June 08, featuring a gazebo, path areas around garden beds and a water feature. Wheelie frame friendly and a lovely area for family and friends to enjoy during our fine weather.
Services
Under the Aged Care Act, Bethshan Lodge provides:
Bethshan Lodge accesses Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapist services to plan for an activities program carried out by Therapy Assistants. Residents have the opportunity to go on bus outings. Meals are provided in dining room by Bethshan Lodge staff. Regular church services are held at Bethshan Lodge.
