Site Description
The original Chrystal Halliday Nursing Homes was opened October 9th 1971. It is now a care facility providing intermix of nursing home and hostel care. There are independent living units and serviced unit facilities which also provide a Day Therapy and Community Care Program. The facility is located close to Karrinyup shopping centre, bus routes to the north and south and the lovely beaches of Perth's northern suburbs.
Services
Nursing Home - High Band Residential Care
Provides personal and nursing care to people with a high level of need. A registered nurse and a team of qualified staff provide 24 hour support to the residents.
Hostel - Low Band Residential Care
The rooms contain a bed, each with a wardrobe and there are shared bathroom facilities. Residents may bring their own personal items. There is a call bell system in every room.Chrystal Halliday has five houses, four with eight rooms and one with nine. Each house provides personal care and assistance with the activities of daily living, such as showering, dressing, bed making etc.
Serviced Units
All residents have their own room and en-suite bathroom. UCH provides basic furniture though residents may provide their own and are encouraged to bring their own personal items. There is a call bell system in every room. Residents have a key to their own room and are encouraged to maintain their independence to the fullest extent possible. Meals are provided in the communal dining room in each house or main diging room.These self-contained rooms provide accommodation for people who require a small amount of support to maintain their independence. Services provided are meals, laundry, cleaning- "hostel" services, and an emergency call button.
Day Therapy CentreThe day therapy centre was established in 1978. It currently provides services in occupational and physical activities for residents of Chrystal Halliday and for people living in the community. The program is part funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care and a nominal fee per day is requested to cover costs of meals and activities. The day therapy program may consist of activities such as art and craft, bus outings, games and exercises
Chaplaincy Services
An Ecumenical Church service is held weekly including the celebration of communion once a month.
Roman Catholic communion and pastoral care is offered on a weekly basis to Catholic residents.
Pastoral Care is offered by the Chaplain to all residents.Community Care Program
This home care program is a subsidised government initiative that aims to provide a low level of "in home" support to clients in the community in the effort to maintain their maximum independence. The services may range from light domestic duties and gardening to assistance with personal hygiene.
Independent Living Units
A limited number of places exist at any given time and a referral must be made through the Aged Care Assessment Team. An assessment will then be made in the clients home to discuss their needs.Independent Living Units provide self-contained units in a village style atmosphere available to people aged 55 yrs and over.
