Site Description
Cygnet Hostel is situated on the Rowethorpe site on Wattle Avenue (off Hillview Terrace). Cygnet Hostel was added to the Rowethorpe site in 1992 and was named for one of the ships bringing early Western Australian Methodists. The layout of Cygnet is a ‘homelike environment’ in a cluster style which accommodates 42 residents in spacious individual rooms with ensuites (with lounges, dining areas and outdoor areas located in each of the three ‘houses’). There is one respite room available. Whilst Cygnet has been providing for mainstream and dementia care, 2006 sees the full securing of the facility -enabling all 42 places to provide dementia specific care. Administration for Cygnet Hostel is situated in the front entrance.
Cygnet is 11 years old and is designed as a "Cluster Style Hostel" There are 3 houses that make up Cygnet Hostel with a total of 42 rooms:

Services
The rooms are a good size and have an ensuite bathroom, bed, headboard and bedside table, built in robes and cupboards and a sink. Residents may bring in their own bed and other items of furniture provided they meet OS&H standards for the resident and carer. The rooms are ducted air conditioners and all bed and bathroom linen is supplied. There is a dining room and lounge area in each house and meals are cooked by the central Rowethorpe kitchen. Carers are multi skilled and a Registered Nurse is in attendance 4 days a week.
Activities
Two Occupational Therapy assistants provide activities for the residents from Monday to Friday. Various outings to places of interest are arranged for those residents who wish to get 'out and about.' Weekly church services are held and Communion and Songs of Praise are each held once a month.
Services
Under the Aged Care Act, Cygnet Hostel provides:
- Hotel services (eg: administration, maintenance of buildings and grounds; Accommodation basic furnishings; bedding; cleaning services; general laundry; meals and refreshments; social activities; emergency assistance; toiletry goods); and
- Residential care services (eg: personal assistance [bathing, showering etc]; treatments and procedures; nursing services; etc). Where residents classified as needing high care, other specific care and services are then provided.
- Cygnet Hostel has a Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapist overseeing an activities program carried out by Therapy Assistants. Residents have the opportunity to go on bus outings.
- Meals are provided in dining rooms by Rowethorpe Catering Services and Cygnet Hostel staff.
- A podiatrist and optician visit Rowethorpe on a regular basis.
- A hairdresser visits Cygnet Hostel approximately once per week.
- The Rowethorpe site also has a chapel, pharmacy and hairdresser.
