Site Description
Hakea House is located at Hakea Place on the Rowethorpe site (entry off Hayman Road). This location is adjacent to the upcoming Annesley (brand new 104-bed facility under construction for completion mid-2006). It was originally opened in 1989 and provided accommodation specifically for six couples where one spouse was the primary carer. The continuing expansion of community aged care in WA led to a review of the use of Hakea and in 2005, UCH was successful in its application for the ‘new’ Hakea House to join the National Respite for Carers Program. This means that Hakea House can now provide respite for Carers of older people with dementia.
We can arrange for a friend or loved one to stay with us while the Carer enjoys a short break, either at home or away. Or the Carer may be going into hospital or care themselves. We also welcome the Carer to stay at Hakea House. Each of the five spacious, self contained units has two bedrooms and these are set around a shared lounge and dining area. Hakea House is staffed 24 hours per day and is fully secured. Hakea House enquiries and administration are provided through Central Administration (contact details below). The Care Manager for Hakea House is located at Cygnet Hostel.
