Site Description

Hilltop Hostel is located on the Rowethorpe site on Hilltop Drive (enter through Tranby Way, off Hayman Road). Hilltop was opened on the 27th February, 1965. The facility is built in the traditional hostel style - a central passageway with rooms on either side. There are two main wings known as "Hillview" and "Hayman" and the central area known as "Middle". Each resident has his/her own bedroom with bathroom/toilet and built-in wardrobe. The remainder of the facility consists of lounges, sun rooms, kitchens, dining rooms. All of which are for the use of residents' families and friends. Residents are encouraged to furnish the room with personal items of furniture eg, china cabinet, television, bookcase, radio, telephone, pictures and paintings. All linen is supplied by the hostel. Certain items are standard in each room, these being: Built-in wardrobe, window treatments, heater & ceiling fan.

59 residents (including one respite) are able to occupy this traditional style hostel –a central passageway with individual rooms (and ensuite) in either direction leading to each of the three wings. Each wing has its own dining, kitchen and lounge areas for residents. Administration for Hilltop Hostel is situated in the front entrance.

Services

Under the Aged Care Act, Hilltop Hostel provides:

• Hotel services (eg: administration, maintenance of buildings and grounds; Accommodation basic furnishings; bedding; cleaning services; general laundry; meals and refreshments; social activities; emergency assistance; toiletry goods); and
• Residential care services (eg: personal assistance [bathing, showering etc]; treatments and procedures; nursing services; etc). Where residents classified as needing high care, other specific care and services are then provided.
• Hilltop Hostel has a Physiotherapy and Therapist overseeing an activities program carried out by Therapy Assistants. Residents have the opportunity to go on bus outings.

Activities & Outings

We have three Occupational Therapy Assistants who organize a programme of activities based on the interests of individual residents.
There is a regular bus trip every Tuesday for those who would like to go out. They include morning tea at Kings Park, visits to the local shopping centre, drives down the coast road, fish & chips at the foreshore in Fremantle. There are regular entertainers who visit the Hostel and there are activities such as - Bingo, Indoor Bowls, exercise programmes, craft, cards etc.

Church Services

People from a variety of church traditions meet together to enjoy God's presence and the fellowship & friendship of one another - all are welcome. The services are held every Friday at 2.00pm and mid week on Thursday at 10.30 am.

Other Services

An independent pharmacy operates within the Rowethorpe complex with regular daily deliveries to the hostel.

• Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy - On site
• Podiatry - Once a week. Appointments can be made at a reduced price for pensioners.
• Optometry - An optometrist visits Rowethorpe every 3 months and an appointment can be arranged through Resident Support Services.
• Hairdresser - A ladies and gents hairdresser is available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings by appointment.
