John Wesley House is situated on the Rowethorpe site along Jenkins Avenue (enter off Hayman Road).

Site Description

Originally opened in 1974, it is home to 92 high care residents. John Wesley A has 44 residents and John Wesley B (the Dementia Specific Unit) accommodates 48 residents. A combination of single and shared rooms are available. Each area has a main dining room and outdoor areas. Administration for John Wesley House is situated in the front entrance to JWA (Reception) and in offices situated on the ground floor of Charles Jenkins Building. John Wesley House is entering a new and exciting phase in its lifetime as we prepare to build a brand new 104 bed ‘replacement’ facility on the Hillview Terrace side of Rowethorpe which will be named ‘Annesley’ in recognition of John Wesley’s mother. The new facility is expected for completion in mid-2007 and is part of the overall long-term redevelopment occurring at Rowethorpe.

Services

Under the Aged Care Act, John Wesley House provides

• Hotel services (eg: administration, maintenance of buildings and grounds; Accommodation basic furnishings; bedding; cleaning services; general laundry; meals and refreshments; social activities; emergency assistance; toiletry goods);and
• Residential care services (eg: personal assistance [bathing, showering etc]; treatments and procedures; nursing services; etc).
• This includes specific care and services for residents classified as needing high care.
• John Wesley House has a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist overseeing an activities program carried out by Therapy Assistants.
• Residents have the opportunity to go on bus outings.
• Meals are provided in dining rooms by Rowethorpe Catering Services and John Wesley House staff.
• A optician visit Rowethorpe on a regular basis.
• A podiatrist is on staff.
• The Rowethorpe site also has a chapel, pharmacy and hairdresser.
