Metro, South of the river, East Fremantle

Site Description

Pilgrim is located along Wolseley Road in East Fremantle and was built in 1975 with a major renovation being completed in 1998. The Hostel comprises three wings which house 24 residents -all within individual rooms with ensuites. 15 of the places are for residents with dementia. There is a dining room in each wing with various lounges and quiet areas throughout. Pilgrim also has Independent Living Units.

Services

Under the Aged Care Act, Pilgrim Hostel provides:

  • Hotel services (eg: administration, maintenance of buildings and grounds; Accommodation basic furnishings; bedding; cleaning services; general laundry; meals and refreshments; social activities; emergency assistance; toiletry goods); and
  • Residential care services (eg: personal assistance [bathing, showering etc]; treatments and procedures; nursing services; etc). Where residents classified as needing high care, other specific care and services are then provided.

Pilgrim Hostel has a Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapist overseeing an activities program carried out by Therapy Assistants. Residents have the opportunity to go on bus outings.

Hostel - Low Band Residential Dementia Care

Provide personal care and assistance with the activities of daily living, such as showering, dressing, bed making etc.
There are 39 single rooms with en-suites, built in wardrobes and drawers. Residents are invited to bring in their own bed and any other furniture and personal items they wish.

Meals

All meals are prepared on premises and served in each of 3 dining rooms.

Activities

Residents are encouraged to participate in various activities which are run by the Occupational Therapists Assistants each morning from Monday to Friday inclusive.
There is a small shop and a library for the use of residents.

Independent Living Units

There are 7 units in the grounds of Pilgrim House all are one bedroom.

Some advantages of 'village' living:
  • Residents have the companionship of other residents and sense of community and security whilst maintaining a flexible and independent lifestyle. All ILUhave an emergency call bell system.
  • We look after all repairs in your unit and maintenance of common grounds. ILU residents are encouraged to participate in the life of the village community as well as maintaining an involvement with the wider community.

Services

All meals, heavy laundry and an emergency call button with a person to respond 24 hours per day. In addition, for those with slightly greater need we will do personal laundry, make beds and clean your unit.

Chaplaincy Services

An Ecumenical Church service is held weekly including the celebration of communion once a month.
Pastoral Care is offered by the Chaplain to all residents.  
Roman Catholic communion and pastoral care can be arranged when requested.

Other Services
  • Podiatrist - every 3rd week
  • Hairdresser - one day per week
  • Physiotherapist - 1 day a week, assistant is on site everyday.
  • Occupational Therapist - One day per week and is responsible in the training of occupational Therapy Assistants and in the provision of suitable programmes for the individual needs of each resident

 Carports

Limited car parking is available on the Pilgrim site for ILU/SU Residents. Residents who wish to park on the site are allocated a bay and pay a fortnightly carport charge. Currently this is $2.10.
