Volunteers Program
If you have some spare time, why not consider doing some volunteer work?
The benefits of volunteer work are enormous, and it’s a fun, active way to enhance your community and help others who may be in less fortunate circumstances.
If you are between jobs, it is a wonderful way to keep busy whilst you are looking for work, and the experience of volunteering is often looked on favourably by future employers. For those considering working in the aged care sector, volunteering provides a relaxed environment in which to find out if working in hostels and nursing homes would suit as paid employment. For those persons studying aged care or allied health, it provides further experience to enhance text book and practical study.
Volunteering can be a pathway from full time work to a more relaxed lifestyle after retirement. It promotes social contact, structured days and a sense of worth in the community, whilst still allowing the freedom one would expect from retirement.
For all volunteer positions, it is a requirement that a volunteer be willing to undergo an application process, which includes a police clearance and one character referee. This is not a long process and a police clearance is paid for by UCH.
