Introduction

Volunteers are people from all walks of life and what they have is the desire to make a difference in their community – and in their own life – by giving of their time and expertise.

Not sure where to start?
Explore this site and discover how you can become part of the UCH family. Learn how you can make a difference in the lives of others.

Volunteers are involved in virtually all aspects of Uniting Church Homes. Some volunteers give just a few hours of time each week; others devote many hours. Some choose to volunteer out in the community whereas others are involved in our care facilities. Volunteers can work on their own or with others.

Volunteering provides experience that matters and opportunities to use valuable skills, to give back to your community, to create and maintain relationships.
Volunteering is one of the ways in which people of all abilities and backgrounds can contribute to positive change. Some volunteers who are new Australians do so because volunteering offers them the chance to gain work experience, to practice language skills and to integrate into a new community.

Youth volunteers use volunteering as a way to discover their talents, to gain self-confidence, to explore career options and to build a sense of independence.

And lots of volunteering positions offer training - so you don't need to be an expert to offer your time to help. We are always looking for - and warmly welcome - new volunteers so why not get involved today?

Volunteers play a pivotal role in the UCH family. Across the organisation, volunteers are engaged in delivering services that improve and enhance the life of our care recipients. Volunteers are people just like you.

Are you up for it?
Nothing gives you more of a buzz than making a real difference to someone's life. Seeing someone getting the most out of life through the work you do with them is something very special. Know how to apply to make a difference:

Benefits of Volunteering
Sure, volunteering is great for your community and makes the world a better place; but could it actually make a positive impact on your life, too?

Increase your career opportunities
From a career perspective, volunteering has a lot to offer. More and more employers of new graduates are looking for community service to be the distinguishing factor among applicants. Putting your volunteering experience on your resume shows commitment, experience in the field and a willingness to go the extra mile in order to finish a job.

Find out if your degree suits you
By getting some experience in your field of study now, you can find out where you want to work, or even if your degree is the best choice for you.

“Volunteering gave me first hand experience of what caring for the elderly actually involved and how challenging a job in aged care could be."

Enhance your personal growth
Volunteering goes beyond your career search. You will find volunteering fulfilling in many other ways. It aids personal growth and the development of transferrable skills.  Many volunteers encounter a variety of new challenges when they begin giving time in their communities. Sharing new experiences with new people, they can learn new skills that can give them confidence to face challenges in other areas of their lives.

Introduce you to new friends
There’s no better place to meet likeminded individuals than through volunteering. Working together to bring about a change is a great way to bond with others and become part of a community that can stay in touch long after your work is done. Plus, you can meet people from a diverse range of backgrounds – people you may never come across in your daily life.

Create more fun in your life
Many volunteers are surprised at how much fun it can be to help others. Not every volunteer experience is the same, but by finding an opportunity that matches your interests, you have a good chance of having fun while giving of your own time.

Life Lessons
When you volunteer, you give part of yourself, your time, energy, skills and feelings. Consider volunteering as an exchange rather than just helping people who are not as fortunate as you. Volunteering doesn’t have to be a one-time experience. For many, it’s a lifetime activity
